Megan’s Law is an informal laws passed in the United States to make the information available in the public about registered sex offenders in the particular Law. This Law varies from the state to state to decide how it is implemented and carried out. Megan’s Law basically provides the public details about the registered sex offenders. Thus Megan’s Law provides information like sex offender’s name and other necessary details like address, picture if available, nature of crime committed by the offender, the date when the crime was last committed by the sex offender. This Law is also known as Sexual Offender Act of 1994 was introduced to safeguards the children’s against the sex offenders or injury against molestation.
The origin of this Law dates back to the heinous and shameful incidence of a seven-year child named Megan Kanka who was brutally molested, raped and murdered by violent sexual offender Jesse Timmendequas in December 2007.Due to this incidence strong resentment roused in the state of New Jersey whereas this incident took place. In the memory of their daughter Megan’s parents founded a foundation with a strong urge that every parents should have right to know the details of any sexual offender or predator is moving in their neighborhoods.
